In-store: Device is locked by factory reset protection

Problem:

You are provisioning a device with a QR code and you see the following error:

 

“Oops! This device is locked by factory reset protection. Contact your IT department”

 


Reason:

Device protection is automatically enabled on devices when you add a Google account.

 

Solution:

Removing your Google account will disable Device Protection.

To remove a Google account when a device is factory reset:

  1. Follow the steps from the initial screen to setup the device (Do not provision it with QR code)
  2. When you are at the Android home screen go to Settings
  3. Go to Accounts
  4. Remove the google accounts present on the device
  5. You can now factory reset the device and continue with QR code enrollment
