Honor gestures not working
Issue
If you notice that gestures on the home screen of Honor devices are not working, the issue is often caused by the Display over other apps setting. This setting can interfere with gesture functionality, preventing it from working properly.
Cause
The "Display over other apps" permission allows apps to draw over or overlay content on the screen. When enabled for certain apps, it can conflict with gesture-based navigation on Honor devices.
Solution
To resolve the issue, you need to disable the Display over other apps permission for specific apps. Follow the step-by-step instructions below.
Important
The overlay icon will not show on the home screen if you disable the permission and the global touch which is any touch outside of the Display app will not work. There is no other permission that can be used so either above features or the gestures on home screen that Honor supports will not work.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Open Device Settings
-
Unlock your Honor device.
-
Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Quick Settings menu.
-
Tap on the Settings (gear icon).
2. Navigate to "Apps & Notifications"
-
Scroll down and select Apps & Notifications or Apps (depending on your device model).
3. Locate "Special Access" or "Special Permissions"
-
Tap on Special Access or Special Permissions. You may find this option under Advanced Settings within the Apps menu.
4. Select "Display Over Other Apps"
-
In the Special Access menu, look for the option labeled Display over other apps and tap on it.
5. Disable Display Over Other Apps for Problematic Apps
-
You will see a list of apps with the permission to display over other apps.
-
Identify the app(s) that may be causing the issue (e.g., screen recording tools, messaging apps with chat bubbles, etc.).
-
Tap on the app name and toggle off the Allow display over other apps option.
Tip: If unsure, you can disable this setting for all apps temporarily and test if gestures start working. Later, re-enable the setting for apps where this permission is essential.
6. Restart Your Device
-
Once you have disabled the setting, restart your Honor device to ensure the changes take effect.
